"Roll Out"

Sorry not about the hit by Ludicris...

Foam rolling is by far one of the best ways you can facilitate recovery, flexibility and overall improved how your body feels/moves.  Believe it or not it originated in the 1920s but was not used by therapist until the 1980s then in the 90s it was introduced to the masses in the fitness community. Although some believe it does not have any benefits I call “Shenanigans” on them. Many years in the fitness industry seeing the benefits firsthand from major injuries to minor soreness it can help any athlete if used correctly.  If you are suffering from some tight areas or minor pains anywhere on your body this can do the trick.  So, what does foam rolling do? Here are some of the benefits.

- Increase Circulation/as we can increase blood flow, which will drive more oxygen into the muscle not only will this increase recovery but also alleviate tension in the muscle and increases neuromuscular efficiency.

- Range & Length/ foam rolling on a regular basis will increase range of motion and provide lengthening to our muscles keep us moving at our best.

- Soreness/when done correctly and on a regular basis you can decrease overall soreness by releasing trigger points and adhesions improving our functional movement.

-  improving Imbalance/ as everyone is different from left to right and front to back rolling out will help to correct this in balance coupled with proper stretching in training.

We could go on and on about all the benefits of foam rolling but I would like you to give it a shot.  A couple of key points to understand before starting a foam rolling regiment. Start soft, we are talking about the density of the roller. You can locate a roller that is soft as a roll of toilet paper or is hard as a steel pipe. The harder the roller the more aggressive it will be so be careful and go slow. Two-minute rule, this means only spend two minutes on each area when starting out. This will ensure that your body is responding correctly. Spending too much time on an area will cause an adverse effect and you will suffer from additional soreness and inflammation so be careful.  Keep the great questions coming and any other concerns you have please feel free to contact us.
